lotus elan roof seals
PANTZ

When i first got my elan 10 years old(the car not me) i wondered what all the fuss was about ..the wet knee syndrome blah blah blah..I thought what a load of old crap..My cars fine...Except this year it rained and all my seats were wet.DOH. When it turned out to be a load of hassle and megga bux to replace the rubber seals i thought there must be something temporary until someone supplies these at a decent price.

I used this stuff as a temporary repair and was very suprised that it has lasted 4 months already without no signs of detoriation. All i did was to dry out the wet rubbers . Inject this stuff into the knackered rubbers ..then shaped the silicon with my finger using a washing up liquid mixture(to stop the silicon sticking to your finger) .You get plenty of time before the stuff starts going off to shape the rubber . I noticed that it has stopped tatty pieces of rubber trim from further deterioration. It seals the rubber and stops the rubber absorbing water like a sponge. This stuff actually dries like rubber.and is almost identical in colour, they should have called it liquid rubber elan trim fixer..Costs £2.99 or £3.99 (cant remember that bit..) and i only used half a tube...American boyz and girlz there must be something like this in the U.S.You can repair the front hood and close the hood (just use clingfilm in between) and peel the clingfilm off once the silicon has set.

Couple of warnings..1:Dont eat this stuff 2; dont muddle it with toothpaste 3: dont muddle it with pile cream....

Just a little update 3 july 2003 The car has been left out in the heavy rain for the last 3 days of horrible weather and so far 1 little drip on the passenger seat. This still not 100% but i am pleased in the results of my efforts...NEWS FLASH AUGUST CAR SAT OUT IN ALL POO WEATHER AND NOT A DRIP INSIDE (ONLY ME)
